The short answer to “what parts of my car can be tinted” is anywhere that’s glass or glass-like material, except your mirrors — that’s a safety issue, friend. Like your favorite burger joint, you can have your car tinted any way you like, in a variety of customized options. In today’s post, we will discuss your luxury car window tint options available at your local Jet Black Tint.
At Jet Black Tint, we’ve been tinting luxury cars in the Bay Area for years and we live by the philosophy of meeting each client’s wishes rather than standardized, assembly-line style installation options. With a variety of high-quality tints to choose from including ceramic, carbon, and metallic films in colors that include smoke, charcoal, and, of course, jet black along with varying tint percentages from 90% to 10%, we can create the perfect tinted look to fit your style. You come to us looking to make your ride uniquely yours, and we are prepared to deliver. So, what parts of your car can we tint?
Front Windshield
California state law stipulates that a car’s windshield can have a 4” tint “brow” to block sun glare without altering the driver’s view. Front windshield brows must allow 70% of light to enter the vehicle — 30% tint or 70 Visible Light Transmission (VLT). For our friends visiting our Katy, Texas location, Texas law allows for 25 VLT up to 5” on the front windshield, with up to 25% reflective property.
For added protection from UV rays and glare, drivers in Texas can have un-tinted film installed on their windshield. California residents may as well, but require a medical exemption.
Front Side Windows
Front side windows can be tinted to the same darkness as the windshield (30% tint or 70 VLT in California, and 75% tint or 25 VLT in Texas), covering the entire window.
Back Side Windows
Your backside windows, including the rear passenger windows and valance windows, can be fully tinted to any VLT in both Texas and California. Privacy tint, which is typically 25-35 VLT, is allowed on any vehicle’s rear side windows in both California and Texas.
Rear Windows
Rear windows follow the same tint rules as rear passenger windows, with the exception that both California and Texas both require dual side mirrors if rear window tint is applied. Torn, bubbled, or peeling window tint film that can obstruct the driver’s view on the rear window must be repaired or removed, or the driver can be ticketed.

Headlight Film
If you’re looking to boost the aesthetics of your ride, headlight tint may be just what you’re looking for. Headlight tint does not hinder the safety or efficiency of your headlights but can offer a better look and extend the lifespan of your headlights. Available in various colors, you can customize your car in a unique way.

At Jet Black Tint, window tint is just the beginning of auto protection. Now that you know which windows you can tint, we think the real question should be what parts of your car can you protect with film from Jet Black Tint?
Paint Protection Film
Paint protection film (PPF) does for your car’s paint job what ceramic tint does for your car’s windows. And, like window tint, there are a variety of coverage options to choose from. Paint Protection Film is an invisible layer of protective film applied directly to your car’s paint. It creates a faux shell to help protect your vehicle from rust, corrosion, paint chips, sun warping, and much more. Let’s take a look at what parts of your car you can install PPF on.
Partial Front
Partial front PPF coverage includes the basics, protecting the most vulnerable parts of your vehicle including:
- Front bumper
- Headlights
- 1/3 of the hood
- Side mirror housing
The partial front option is the economy option offering the least coverage and protection, but preventing normal wear and tear from regular driving.
Full Front
Full front coverage is essentially what the name implies. Offering more coverage and protection than the partial front, full front PPF covers:
- Entire hood
- Front fender and bumper
- Headlights
- Side mirror housing
- Front door cups/front wheel well
- Rear luggage area
For most vehicles, full-front PPF is enough to prevent most damage caused by driving and the environment, especially those vehicles that are stored in garages or shaded areas.
Full Vehicle
Full vehicle PPF is the ultimate protection option and is the best investment for those who are looking to savor every mile. Full vehicle PPF covers all of the painted surfaces of the vehicle including:
- Entire hood, roof, and body
- Front and rear fender and bumper
- Headlights
- Side mirror housing
- Door cups/ wheel well
- Rear luggage area
- All doors
Full vehicle tint essentially seals in your car’s paint and reduces damage from driving, the environment, and external trauma.
