Welcome to Jet Black Tint and Glass, the Bay Area’s top-rated automotive tint shop. With 14 locations and hundreds of clients and potential customers, we get thousands of questions about window tint film and the tinting process daily. In today’s post, we’ll answer a few of the more common questions we get.
Does tint go on the inside or the outside of my windows?
The automotive window tint film is applied to the inside of your windows. If you are watching the tint technicians install your window tint, you may see them being to put the film on the outside of your vehicle glass, but this is temporary just to measure and correctly cut the film. Once the measurements have been made, the film will be installed on the inside. In some cases, your door panels may be removed during the tint application process to prevent gaps along the bottom edge of the window and the film, however, this is not necessary with every tint installation.
How long does vehicle window tint installation take?
This answer varies depending on your vehicle, where you take your car, and how many windows you are having tinted. Generally speaking, full car installation should take between one and two hours.
At Jet Black Tint, our tint technicians can complete most window tint installations in an hour or less. If you’ve got a complex vehicle with more windows than the standard luxury sedan, we just get more technicians on the case. If your vehicle will take more than an hour, we will let you know, but it is rare.
Do I need to keep my windows rolled up after installation?
In most cases, you’ll need to leave your car windows rolled up for one to four days following the application to allow the tint adhesive to cure completely. The weather and adhesive type used may influence how long the recommended curing time is. Your window tint technician should review the care of your tint film prior to you leaving your local tint shop.
Will the weather affect my tint installation?
No. Car window tint can be accurately applied in any weather. Of course, dry, warm weather is ideal for quick and easy installation, but any will do. In wet or rainy conditions, you’ll need to have the tint applied inside, which may limit mobile installation locations. In cold or wet conditions, curing time may take slightly longer, but we doubt you’ll want your windows down in these conditions anyhow!
At Jet Black Tint, our tint shops are fully equipped to install tint and paint protection film on several vehicles at one time without exposing them to the elements. Our mobile tint option may be limited during inclement weather, but if your scheduling our team in a covered area such as your garage or a public parking garage, there shouldn’t be much disruption in the mobile tint service offering.
How do I clean my tinted windows?
You can clean your glass from the outside of your vehicle in your preferred method. We always suggest avoiding abrasive chemicals and automatic car washes that may scratch the glass or leave water spots. On the inside of your car, where your tint is, you can use a microfiber cloth and either a combination of soap and water, vinegar and water, or any non-abrasive window cleaning agent.
Why does my window tint look purple?
Dyed window tint tends to fade and warp over time as the dye ages with sun exposure. High-quality window tint resists fading and distortion and keeps its rich jet-black color as opposed to warping purple. Ceramic window tint color is embedded in nano-particles in the film that is much more durable and sun-resistant than other options.
If your window tint film is looking purple, it is time to get your tint film removed and replaced at a top-rated tint shop that uses high-quality products.
Why does my window tint look yellow?
Yellowing window tint is the result of cheap adhesives. As the adhesives age and are exposed to sunlight, they warp to an unattractive amber hue. To avoid this, it’s best to use high-quality window tints and adhesives; there are no two ways around it.
Is window tint really worth it?
Absolutely. From a financial standpoint, the upfront cost of auto tint is fairly insignificant in the long run. Window tint saves your interior from damage, puts less strain on your engine, and has significant health benefits, not to mention the improved resale value that directly translates into financial benefits. Other factors that make window tint an easy sale are a significant improvement in comfort and striking curb appeal. Auto tint done correctly is absolutely worth it.
