Does Tinting Windows Devalue Your Car?
We hate to sound cliche, but, it depends. If high-quality window tint film was professionally installed, it can actually increase your car’s value rather than decrease it. Window tint film improves aesthetics and helps support engine performance by decreasing the stress on your HVAC system. Some window tint protects your vehicle and its glass while adding security that makes auto insurance providers happy you have it installed.
On the other hand, if you have a cheap tint installed by sub-par professionals, it will immediately devalue your car, not only in terms of resale value but likely in terms of your own satisfaction. To learn more about auto tint and your car’s value, read our complete post on the topic.

How Often Should You Replace Your Car Window Tint?
Once you’ve had your car windows tinted, you’ll want to look at replacing the film about every five years or so. This five-year replacement estimate will vary based on a few things like material quality, installation type, exposure, symptoms the tint is experiencing, and other factors. You can bet that window tint that was less expensive up front probably won’t make it to the full five-year mark and will show signs of wear and tear sooner, making replacement a necessity. For instance, dye tint, while easier on the wallet at installation, often tends to fade quicker and becomes less protective. However, carbon tint, when it’s professionally installed, will likely last the entire five years, if not longer, before showing signs of break down.
Ceramic tint is considered the gold standard in window tinting, which would lead you to believe that it should last will into the fifth year. However, if it was installed by techs who weren’t sure what they were doing, it may begin to peel or blister much sooner than it would if expert tint technicians had installed it.

How Does Car Window Tinting Work?
Car window tint is an aftermarket film applied to your car’s glass for the purpose of enhancing the look and function of the windows. Tint is applied to darken windows and performs as a barrier between the sun and passengers. Tint works by reflecting, radiating, or absorbing solar rags, heat, and energy. Each type of tint works differently to reduce the amount of UV light that penetrates the windows.
Dyed film absorbs the sun’s rays to keep the heat at the glass instead of letting it enter the car. Metalized film reflects the sun’s rays away from the car and prevents them from entering the window. Carbon and ceramic have nanoparticles that repel solar rays. What Is The Best Car Window Tint For Cars?
We get asked this question a lot and the simple answer is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. The best car window tint for one car and its owner isn’t what’s the best solution for the car in the next parking stall. There are several factors to consider when selecting the best window tint for your car. For starters, you have to choose the type of window tint that will suit your needs the best. There are six main options — dyed tinting, metalized tint, hybrid tint, carbon tint film, crystalline tint, and ceramic tint.
Which one is the right choice for you will depend on your budget and your main motivation for adding tint to your windows. If you’re looking to simply upgrade your curb appeal, just about any one of the tint-type options will do. However, if you’re looking to increase privacy and keep your car’s temperature more consistent, you’ll want to opt for carbon or ceramic tints. While these have a higher up-front cost, the return on investment is much higher. Check out our article on the topic to take a deep dive into the various car window tints and discover which one is best for your car.
