Does Jet Black Tint have you excited about the prospect of installing your own auto-tint film, but you’ve still got a laundry list of questions before you get started? At JBT, we get questions about our DIY tint line all the time and we are here to help! In today’s post, our window tint experts will answer all of the most common questions we get. If you don’t see your question here or you have additional questions, reach out to us online, on social media, or just stop by your nearest Bay Area location.
Will moisture make the film peel?
No, static tint film will remain on the window, even in the presence of condensation or moisture. And, because the tint is on the inside of the glass, it is unaffected by rain and other sources of moisture. It’s still a good idea to try to limit the moisture that’s inside your vehicle to prevent other problems like mold and mildew from forming between car layers and on your upholstery, but rest assured your window tint will remain unaffected as long as it was properly applied.
Is it difficult to tint your own windows?
Yes and no. The static DIY tint is not difficult to install, but does require some patience and for you to follow all of the steps properly to avoid bubbling or a tilted fit. As long as you thoroughly clean the glass and properly fit the tint, it is fairly easy to complete. If you do have trouble with placement, you can simply remove the film and place it again.
How long will my DIY window tint last?
Under normal conditions, the window tint film will remain in great shape for at least two years or more. In heavily used areas, it may not last quite as long, however. If you remove the static film, clean the window thoroughly, and reapply, you can significantly extend the life of the film. An added benefit to aftermarket window tint is that if the window is damaged, you can replace just that piece of the film rather than your entire vehicle’s tint.
How do I cut my DIY window film?
If you purchase Jet Black static tint, there’s no need to cut it. Our team of tint experts pre-cut all of the window tint film orders to fit your windows precisely. Using the latest technology, we laser cut the film to meet the exact dimensions of your vehicle’s windows for a sure fit you don’t have to cut. Because cutting the film is often the most difficult part of the process, the fact that we pre-cut for you will reduce the workload and improve the overall outcome tremendously.
Can I use the tint on more than one vehicle?
Since our DIY tint is a static tint, it can easily be applied and removed. This means that you could, hypothetically use it on multiple vehicles with the same window shape and measurements. As long as the windows have the same dimensions, you can certainly swap out which vehicle is tinted. All tint film is precut to the exact dimensions of the windows, so if you attempt to use the film on another make and model vehicle with different-sized windows, it may not fit perfectly.
Does the tint go on the inside or the outside of the window?
Great question — always the inside! If you were to install the tint film on the outside of the window, the film would come off in wet weather and could be chipped by flying debris. Placing the film on the inside of the window helps protect both the window and the film.
To get a darker tint, can I double up the film?
While this does make sense in theory, it is not advisable. Not only does doubling up the tint film mess with the aesthetics, but it can also disrupt window function. If you are going to invest in two sets of films, we suggest simply swapping them out. For instance, if your normal driving film is 85% VTL and you are thinking of applying another layer to decrease light transmission, just swap out your precuts for 50%. If you are looking to add DIY static tint on top of your professionally installed permanent window tint for a temporary darkening effect, it will work, although, it should not be a permanent solution.
What warranties are there on DIY tint?
The only warranties are product warranties that cover product defects. Since the application is done by the vehicle owner rather than a local professional tint shop, correct installation cannot be verified, and thus craftsmanship cannot be guaranteed. You save money upfront on a DIY project, but you’ll need to take care and do it correctly to optimize your return on investment.
How much does DIY tint cost?
DIY static tint for your car is much less expensive than ceramic window tints installed by tint professionals at your local shop. Of course, like anything, the cost is influenced by how many windows you’re attempting to tint, the make and model of your vehicle, and which auto tint you select. At Jet Black Tint, we’ve got a great selection of DIY tints to fit every budget and vehicle.
