How long does auto glass repair or replacement take?
Our glass technicians can complete most windshield repairs in 30 minutes or less. Windshield replacements take slightly longer, but usually less than one hour. After installation is complete, the urethane adhesive must be given time to dry. It is recommended that you wait one hour after installation before driving your vehicle. To save you more time and spend less time at our shop, call ahead to make sure we have your glass in stock.
Can I drive after windshield replacement?
The short answer is not immediately, but yes. During the windshield installation, the glass tech uses a urethane adhesive to seal the windshield. The adhesive must be allowed to completely dry for at least one hour before you can resume normal use. It is important to note that the urethane will not be completely secure enough to withstand the impact of a collision within the first 8 hours after installation.
How soon can I wash my car after windshield replacement?
After receiving windshield replacement, you should not wash your windshield by any means for at least 24 hours. It is highly recommended that you wait at least a few days before visiting a drive-thru carwash to give the urethane seal time to completely cure to withstand the high pressure of the carwash system. If you need to wash your car within the first few days following your windshield replacement, you can do so by hand, as long as you avoid using a high-pressure hose. It is the pressure, not the moisture that is the issue, so no need to worry about adverse weather affecting your new windshield.
Can my windshield be repaired or do I need to replace it?
It’s not only a safety recommendation but also the law in many places, that any windshield damage is fixed as soon as possible. Some minor chips can be repaired if the damage is not in the driver’s line of vision and is smaller than the size of a quarter and is not more than one-third the depth of the glass. If the break is larger or in the driver’s line of vision, it is required to have the damage fixed right away. The auto glass technician at your local Jet Black Tint can list out all of your options once the damage has been assessed.
Is it better to get an OEM or after-market windshield for my replacement?
When you’re replacing your windshield, you can either purchase a replacement Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) windshield or opt for an aftermarket automotive windshield. We partner with Pilkington Glass, which is the global gold standard in both OEM and local Automotive Glass Replacement (AGR) Aftermarket sectors. When you get your windshield replaced at Jet Black Tint, you can rest assured you’re getting the best glass that manufacturers trust and insurance companies rely on.
What happens to my windshield attachments when I get the glass replaced?
If you have automatic sensors or advanced security systems or cameras, they will all be recalibrated with your glass replacement service. For window stickers and decor, you may be responsible for replacing or transferring those yourself. At Jet Black Tint, when you get your windshield replaced with us, we include complimentary window tint service at the same time.
Will my insurance rates go up if I get my windshield replaced?
For most major auto insurance companies, your rates will not go up due to a windshield replacement. Windshield damage is considered normal wear and tear on your vehicle and is bound to happen to most windshields at some point. These sorts of damages are considered normal and factored into the cost of your insurance as an anticipated claim. Because a new windshield can prevent more damage and collisions, most insurance companies actually encourage their beneficiaries to get their windshields replaced. Some insurance carriers may hike your rate, but it is not common and may warrant looking into getting a new insurance provider.
Are there warranties or guarantees on my newly replaced windshield?
At Jet Black Tint, we guarantee craftsmanship on all windshield replacements. We also provide limited product warranties including defects, but these warranties do not cover new damage sustained.
