The Truth About PPF – Answering Your Questions

Here at Jet Black Tint, window tint is where we got our start and the basic foundation on which our company (and brand) flourished. However, since our beginnings, we’ve added a multitude of aesthetic-enhancing services for vehicles, including paint protection film (PPF) installation, repair, and removal. We get a lot of questions from those who are considering investing in PPF for their luxury sports car. If you’ve been following our blog for any length of time, you may have already read some of our other PPF posts addressing specific questions. In today’s post, we’ll attempt to answer all of the most common questions we get and share the resources that will best assist you in your decision.

Would My Car Benefit From PPF?

Yes! How can we answer so quickly and confidently without follow-up questions? Because the answer is always yes. There are a few times when a car’s current condition may not warrant it as ready for paint protection film application just yet. For instance, if the car needs body work, has been in a recent accident, the current paint situation is a mess, there is active rust occurring, etc. However, these things may have been reduced or prevented had PPF been installed prior to the damage, and once the damage is corrected, PPF can serve as an additional barrier or sealant to keep your car’s body looking new. Whatever condition your car is in, bring it by and we will assess it for paint protection film potential.

What About My Tesla, Would It Benefit From PPF?

Absolutely! Tesla is known for its top-of-the-line production practices and advanced materials used in the assembly, and that is all the more reason to invest in paint protection film to act as a shield to keep your Tesla pristine. Be warned, however, that not all PPF installation shops are created equal nor are the products they carry, and if you own a Tesla, you’re already well aware of the value of quality products and craftsmanship. At Jet Black Tint, we have been the top-rated local Bay Area Tesla PPF company for years. Our skilled team has upgraded hundreds of Tesla cars and we can’t wait to put our PPF on yours!

Will PPF Installation Impact My Car’s Value?

Of course. High-quality paint protection film (PPF), when installed by trained professionals will boost the resale value of your car and protect the worth of your car over time. By preventing paint and body normal wear and tear, PPF keeps your car looking newer longer. However, cheap PPF applied by untrained personnel can immediately depreciate your car’s resale value and cause damage over time that will continue to decrease the overall value of your car.

So, yes, PPF installation impacts your car’s value, doing your research and ensuring that it is professionally installed will ensure it’s in a positive direction.

Is Paint Protection Film Worth It?

Yes, absolutely. Again, we’ve got to throw in the caveat that it is worth it if you are investing in high-quality PPF and the skills of experienced PPF installation technicians. Some car owners do wince at the initial investment cost, but the return on investment over the lifetime of your car is absolutely worth it. And, PPF will prevent the future need for a lot of potentially expensive bodywork. Some perks of PPF include:

  • Decreased effects of normal vehicle wear and tear including fading , staining, and rusting
  • Protection against scratches and gouges
  • Increased resale value
  • Improved curb appeal
  • Easy-to-clean surface ensures nothing sticks and keeps your car looking fresh all the time

Full Front – From $1900

Full front paint protection packages begin at $1900 and include film for the entire hood, full fenders and bumpers, headlights, mirrors, door cups, and rear luggage area. The complimentary full-car window tint features carbon film for all side and rear windows — a $555 value!

The complimentary full-car window tint includes premium ceramic window tint on all vehicle windows, including the windshield — a $1075 value!

My Car’s Paint Has Some Flaws, Can I Cover Them With PPF?

Paint protection film will defend the paint it covers from sustaining new damage, but cannot fix the damage that has already occurred. Additionally, if the damage is rust, adding PPF on top can trap it, allowing the damage to continue and interfere with the adhesion of the film. So, long story summed up, it is not a great idea to simply add PPF onto damaged paint. We highly recommend adding PPF to the original paint as close to the sale of the car as possible. If you do need to have body and paint repairs, it is recommended to wait about 30 days after the final touchup to have PPF installed.

Who Should I Trust to Install My PPF?

It’s no doubt that an online search for a “PPF installer near me” will yield a variety of results, but you want a top-rated shop with plenty of good reviews, satisfied clients, and high-quality materials that will protect your vehicle for years to come. At Jet Black Tint, we have been the paint protection film authority in the Bay Area for years. Our brand is synonymous with quality, affordable work that lasts.
